Ranger Derby is an annual event normally held in February of each year. It is an event for moms and dads to work with their sons and daughters to build a derby car and race in their respective division. There are seven (7) divisions: Men and Women (over 17), Boys and Girls (non-Rangers under 18), Ranger Kids, Discovery Rangers, Adventure Rangers, Expedition Rangers and the Outlaw class, a division for cars that do not meet the requirements for the standard race. To download a copy of the Derby Rules and Schedule click here or go to the Links and Forms page.

Battle of Aiken is held each year the fourth weekend in February. Since 1995, thousands of spectators travel to Aiken each year to see hundreds of soldiers, and living historians recreate one of the last Confederate victories of the war: The Battle of Aiken. The event commemorates battles that were typical of the engagements during Sherman’s march through Georgia and the Carolinas. The rare Confederate victory in Aiken saved the town from being burned in 1865.

The district sells t-shirts at this event as a fundraiser, and we volunteer directing cars to parking and picking up trash. The Swamp Fox Chapter FCF also has a village at the event which is a highlight for many spectators. Go to Battle of Aiken – 30th Annual Festival for details about the event. Contact John Campbell for details about volunteering and camping at the event.

District Pow Wow is an annual weekend camping event held each May at River Oaks Retreat Center, 180 Youth Camp Road, Honea Path, SC. Outposts camp along the Saluda River, enjoying the smell of campfires, the sound of the river, and the sounds of nature. Activities include swimming, zip line, the rifle range, and more. Each night the staff puts on a pageant, teaching in a fun way the message of Jesus Christ’s love for each of us and the forgiveness of our sins. Then we get serious with a devotion and altar call, giving boys and young men the opportunity to receive Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, for healing, and the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Go to the Links and Forms page to download a PDF or Word Registration form and the Pow Wow Packet.

Pow Wow Workday is an opportunity for outposts to go to River Oaks Retreat Center two or three weeks before the annual Pow Wow to clean up their camp sites and do other service projects at the camp. This can be a day trip or a weekend campout. Contact the District Director for more information.
